Sechs Mal am Tag kommen die Einsiedler Benediktiner zu einem gemeinsamen Gottesdienst zusammen – von halb sechs Uhr morgens bis acht Uhr abends. Doch der heilige Benedikt will nicht nur, dass die Mönche beten. Lesen und arbeiten sind zwei ebenso wichtige Pfeiler des Klosterlebens – und alle drei Säulen sollen in ausgewogener Balance sein.
Die Mönche arbeiten dabei in verschiedenen Arbeitsbereichen, eines davon ist der Unterricht unseres Gymnasiums. Seit jeher führt die hiesige Gemeinschaft eine eigene Schule. Heute drücken hier rund 350 Schülerinnen und Schüler die Schulbank – zum Teil sind sie intern, das heisst sie wohnen unter der Woche hier.

Six times a day the Benedictine monks assemble for a church service. The first service starts at half past five in the morning and the last service ends around eight o’clock in the evening. According to the rule of Benedict monks should also work and read. Benedict’s rule also instructs monks to strive to find a proper balance between the three pillars of the monastic life (praying, working and reading).
In Einsiedeln the monks work in various areas. One of those areas is giving lessons at the abbey school. Our monastery community has been giving lessons ever since the founding of the abbey. Nowadays the school has about 350 students. A section of our students lives in the monastery during week days.

Les bénédictins ermites se réunissent six fois par jour pour un service commun – de cinq heures et demie du matin à huit heures du soir. Mais saint Benoît ne veut pas que les moines prient uniquement. La lecture et le travail sont deux piliers tout aussi importants de la vie monastique – et les trois piliers doivent être équilibrés.
Les moines travaillent dans différents domaines, dont l’un est l’enseignement de notre lycée. La communauté locale a toujours eu sa propre école. Aujourd’hui, environ 350 élèves vont à l’école ici – certains d’entre eux sont internes, ce qui signifie qu’ils vivent ici pendant la semaine.
